FRANKIE ROSE RED MUSEUM

As an original member of Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls and Beverly, prolific songwriter and musician Frankie Rose's standards have been set high. With 3 solo albums under her belt, Rose has recently announced the arrival of number 4, titled Cage Tropical, which will be her first solo effort since 2013. After moving to L.A. and ending up working on a food truck after a tough time, she's managed to pull it back teaming up with producer Jorge Elbrecht (Tamaryn, Gang Gang Dance, No Joy, Violens) to create a sci-fi inspired new record. 'Red Museum' is the second taste of the LP, which combines gleaming guitars with whimsical vocals and elements of darkness and the surreal, as Rose explains, "My references aren't just music...I love old sci-fi. They Live is one of my favorite movies ever, same with Suspiria. '80s sci-fi movies with a John Carpenter soundtrack, with silly synths - that makes it into my file, to the point that I'll write lyrics incorporating that kind of stuff. It's in there." The video is equally spooky, featuring some colourfully cloaked figures and plenty of extraterrestrial activity. -HLMX
